About Us

The American Society of Ephesus, Inc. (George B. Quatman Foundation) was founded in October 1955 as a non-profit corporation. It is a private foundation recognized by the IRS under chapter 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The 1955 By Laws stated that the purpose for the organization as envisioned by its founder was:

TO PROMOTE the fundamental teachings of Christian doctrine which the rapid advancement of the material world has failed either through inadvertence, preoccupation or design to keep pace within our governmental policy and international problems. No civilization can long endure unless its peoples accept and incorporate into their daily lives the teachings of Christ as disseminated by His Apostles.

TO RESTORE AND PRESERVE the sacred sanctuaries of early Christian leaders in Ephesus where Mary, the Immaculate Mother of Christ, and St. Mary Magdalene spent their last days on earth and where St. John wrote his gospels and solidified Christianity through the establishment of Seven Bishoprics.

TO DISTRIBUTE literature to promote such aims.

TO ASSIST in caring for and restoring places of general worship.

TO GRANT help to schools, universities or scholars in order to encourage and promote religious and spiritual studies.

TO PROMOTE pilgrimages and other means of devotion.

These goals are largely unchanged today. To this end, The American Society of Ephesus, Inc. will operate exclusively for charitable, educational and religious purposes through its philanthropic endeavors.
